Police arrest alleged purse-snatcher

A 40-year-old man is accused of stealing a woman’s purse in Utica Thursday night, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Tyrrell Royster, of Utica, approached a woman inside a store on Bleecker Street at about 9:30 p.m. and he attempted to pull the woman’s purse off her shoulder. Police said the woman tried to defend herself, and Royster became more aggressive and successfully snatched her purse.

Police said Royster fled the scene in a silver-colored sedan. The woman was not injured, authorities stated.

Descriptions of Royster and the sedan were shared through the department and police said the vehicle was spotted and pulled over Friday morning. Royster was taken into custody.

Royster is charged with one count of felony third-degree robbery, police stated.

He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
