Pick a Pet: Local animals seek a new home
This mellow miss is Rachel and she’s a beautiful six-year-old Dilute Tortoiseshell feline. She’s been residing at the shelter for over three months and does tend to get overlooked because she spends a lot of time tucked away in one of the cat trees. She’s shy, laid back and sweet as can be. A quiet home environment would be beneficial for her. Someone with the time and patience to help her adjust is just what she needs. She gets along well with other cats, especially those who are calm like her. She would make a great companion. To visit Rachel, stop by the Humane Society of Rome, 6247 Lamphear Road, call 315-336-7070 or go to www.humanesocietyrome.com.
Blake is looking for a home. This handsome guy came in as a stray and nobody claimed him. He’s a beautiful Red Bone Coonhound that’s around 2 years old. He absolutely loves people, seems fine with other dogs, and walks well on a leash. He’s extremely stressed out at the shelter and would really love to be in a home. To adopt Blake, visit the Herkimer County Humane Society at 514 State Route 5S in Mohawk, or call 315-866-3255.
Curtis is a 10-year-old sweetheart that came in as a stray and stole the hearts of literally everyone. When Curtis was picked up by animal control he went straight to the vet because he appeared to be injured. His head was hanging low and tilted to the side. After X-rays, it was learned that Curtis had an old injury and the radiologist noticed metal fragments inside of his body. We believe he may have been shot at some point in his life. The vet examined him every which way and he has never seemed to be in any pain. We do believe his previous head/neck injuries may have affected his hearing, he does seem to be a bit hard of hearing at times. Despite his age and his differences, this guy can move! He loves to run and play and he does somersaults. Curtis loves everyone he meets and he did fine when tested with other dogs and cats. He is a major lover and also loves to sit on laps and give kisses. He is neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $120. Apply here to adopt: www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog. Anita’s Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, 315-738-4357, www.anitas-sshs.org.
Stella is a sweet girl who is very spirited and has an independent soul. Stella loves her walks and would do best with someone who could help work on her leash manners. If you are looking for a hiking or jogging partner, Stella may be your girl. This young lady would love a family that enjoys being active, as she has plenty of energy to work off. If you would like to meet her, stop by Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association, 7138 Sutherland Drive, Canastota, or give them a call at 315-697-2796.
