Pastor to deliver keynote for King Day virtual event

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. service program by the Rome branch of the NAACP will be held virtually at 10 a.m. on Monday, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The service program to honor and celebrate the legacy of King normally has been a breakfast event. But a Rome NAACP announcement for the program noted the “very challenging times as we all try to navigate this pandemic,” adding “what has been done annually in the past is no longer the norm.”

The keynote speaker for the virtual program Monday will be Pastor Tommy R. Jackson of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

The announcement said there is no cost for the event, but “monetary donations to the Rome NAACP would be appreciated as we have used the funds from this event to cover cost for our community events and children’s programs.”
