UTICA — A 50-year-old man who previously served two decades behind bars for murder was taken into custody on Sunday for allegedly stealing the cash register from Chef's Express in Utica, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said Felix Robles, of Utica, threw a rock through the front window of Chef's Express on Genesee Street on January 15 and stole the cash register from inside. Investigators checked surveillance camera footage and were able to identify Robles through state parole records.

A warrant was issued and Robles was located and taken into custody in Oneida Square on Sunday.

Robles is charged with one count each of third-degree burglary and petty larceny, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.

According to state records, Robles was convicted in 1994 of second-degree murder and several weapons charges in the Bronx area of New York City. He served 21 years in Sing Sing Correctional Facility before being released on parole to be deported in 2015.
