Oneida man charged with opening fire during fight
ONEIDA — A 26-year-old man is facing more than a dozen charges stemming from accusations he opened fire during a fight in Oneida, according to the Oneida Police Department.
Police said Eric W. Hertel, of Oneida, was involved in a fight on North Lake Street near Gladwell Avenue around 3:40 p.m. on March 17. There were reports of several gunshots being fired during the fight before officers arrived on the scene. Police said they responded and secured the area, before taking Hertel into custody for the reported gunfire.
No one is believed to have been injured.
Hertel is charged with three counts each of attempted second-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, as well as one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Oneida City Court.
