One dead in late night Madison County fire
SULLIVAN — A 68-year-old man is dead after a fire in his home in Madison County late Wednesday night, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
County officials said the alarm was raised at 11:51 p.m. for a fire at 8955 Tyler Road in the Town of Sullivan. Authorities said a neighbor discovered the fire and called 911, then told firefighters that the resident might still be inside. Tyler Road runs north off Route 31 on the south side of Oneida Lake.
The house was fully involved when volunteers from six departments arrived on the scene and began battling the fire, officials said. Once it was safe to check the home, authorities said they found the body of the resident — 68-year-old Harold Fink — in the fire. Fink died of injuries he sustained in the fire, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, county officials stated.
The Bridgeport, Chittenango, North Chittenango, South Bay, Cicero and Minoa fire departments responded to the scene.
