OLD FORGE View, the center of arts and culture at 3273 Route 28, will host three workshops in the coming weeks — Make Ceramic Christmas Tree, Ceramic Gnome Ornaments, and Hand-Build Ceramic Holiday Dishes. Masks are required at all times and all CDC and State Guidelines will be enforced. Pre-registration is required for all classes by calling 315-369-6411, or online at ViewArts.org/workshops/pottery.

Make Ceramic Christmas Trees with Bette Rintrona Thursday, Nov. 5.

This is a two-day workshop, starting on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a second day for glazing and decorating on Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Instructor Bette Rintona will teach basic hand-building skills to make two Christmas trees with stoneware clay. On Nov. 5, clay trees will be designed and assembled, using rolling patterns and textures to decorate the clay surface. Nov. 12 will be used to add color to the trees with underglazes. If students are unable to return the second day, their trees can be glazed by an instructor in a green or clear glaze.

No pottery experience needed for this project, which is great for beginners. The cost of the class is $55 or $45 for members. Space is limited to 6 students and pre-registration is required. The price of the class includes the materials and firing of two trees. Additional pieces created will be $4 each for materials and firing.

• A Holiday Gnome Ornament workshop will be held on Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. - noon.

Every home needs a gnome ornament, or two or three. Instructor Marie Imundo will help ensure each gnome is as individual as the maker. It’s a great project for beginners, adults, teens, kids, and everyone in between.

Participants will create little gnomes using stoneware clay. They will be decorated during class. Glazing will be completed later by the instructor. Students will be contacted when their work is ready for pick up. An option to ship your gnomes is also available (shipping fees are not included in the workshop cost and will be charged separately).

A hand-built Ceramic Holiday Dish workshop will be held on Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. - noon, with a second day for glazing and decorating on Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. - noon.

Instructor Wendy Seifried will teach participants basic hand-building pottery skills to make two holiday themed dishes, or they can choose a theme of their own. These dishes will be formed and decorated using various stamps, rollers, and texturing tools to make functional, one of-a-kind pieces.

The following Saturday is an optional glazing session. Students will learn the basics of glazing or can opt for the instructor to glaze for you. All pieces will be ready to take home for the holidays. Give your plates as gifts or use them for your holiday entertaining.
