No one hurt in Seward Ave. blaze; quick work limits fire’s spread
UTICA — No one was injured after a fire in a pair of bedrooms at a home on Seward Avenue late Wednesday night, according to the Utica Fire Department.
Fire officials said the alarm was raised at 11:43 p.m. Wednesday for a fire on the second floor of 9 Seward Ave., which runs east and west between Genesee Street and French Road on Utica's west side. Responding firefighters found heavy smoke visible from the upstairs and they launched an interior attack.
The flames were quickly knocked down, and firefighters opened the wall to make sure they didn't spread beyond the second floor, officials said. The fire damage was contained to two bedrooms.
Tarps were used to cover property on the first-floor to minimize water damage, officials said. Authorities said the cause remains under investigation by the Utica Fire Marshal's Office.
