No active shooter in Rome, state police arrest leads to online speculation

ROME — There was no active shooter or methamphetamine bust in the City of Rome today, according to the Rome Police Department. Despite social media chatter, law enforcement officials said it was an arrest by the state police on North Madison Street.

Rome Police said the New York State Police conducted an arrest at a residence in the 500 block of N. Madison St. for a crime that occurred outside of the City of Rome. Police said there was a period of negotiations before the suspects surrendered peacefully.

State Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and information will be released at a later time.

Rome Police said any social media discussion about an active shooter is false.
