New York City man sentenced in Utica KeyBank robbery
UTICA — A New York City man has been sentenced to at least three years in federal prison for robbing the KeyBank in Utica in 2019, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Authorities said William Maybank, 56, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge David N. Hurd on Tuesday to 3 1/4 years in prison on a charge of armed bank robbery. A jury trial was held in June 2022 and it ended in a mistrial when the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, according to court documents.
Maybank then pleaded guilty in October.
At 2:14 p.m. Aug. 26, 2019, authorities said Maybank entered the KeyBank on Mohawk Street in Utica with what appeared to be a revolver and while wearing a mask. Authorities said Maybank pointed the weapon at several bank employees while demanding money. At one point, authorities said Maybank jumped over the teller counter and forced a bank employee to empty two drawers.
Maybank fled the bank with $6,756, authorities stated, and got into a waiting getaway vehicle driven by another person.
