UTICA — Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-22, New Hartford, announced on Monday the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for New York’s 22nd Congressional District.

Vestal Senior High School student Nadja Wall’s work, titled “The Aquarium,” was named this year’s first-place winner by a panel of independent judges.

The second-place winner was New Hartford Senior High School student Anita Grant’s work, “A Place We Walked.” The third-place winner, titled “Metaphors Make Morons Vol 2,” was submitted by Vestal Senior High School student Olivia Muse.

The fourth-place winner was submitted by Holland Patent High School student Emily Carlson, titled “Flipped Perspective.”

This year, Tenney also announced Fan Favorite artworks, as selected by those who attended the recent Community Art Shows. The Fan Favorite work from the Central New York Art Show was titled “Happy Alone” and submitted by New Hartford Senior High School student Gianna Yacobucci.

The Southern Tier Art Show’s Fan Favorite work, “Pakistani Doshiza,” was submitted by Vestal Senior High School student Salwa Nadeem.

Since 1982, the Congressional Art Competition has been held every spring to showcase talented art students from across the nation. This year, the winners were selected from a group of nearly 50 submissions from across the 22nd District, according to Tenney’s office.

The first-place winner’s work will be displayed prominently in the U.S. Capitol, while the other winners will have their work displayed across Tenney’s District and Washington, DC offices. All winners will be formally honored at a ceremony later this year.
