National Guard promotes two soldiers


LATHAM — Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the adjutant general for New York, has announced the promotion of two area members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

They are:

Catherina Ma, from Utica, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, to specialist; and

Alexis Newbury, of Rome, 206th Military Police Company, to specialist.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential, the announcement said, adding they additionally recognize the best qualified soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber citizen soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard.
