MWPAI celebrates the American circus at Art Alive Family Day

Posted

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica is inviting area residents to take a trip back to the heyday of the traditional American circus as the legendary Bindlestiff Family Cirkus celebrates traditional circus arts at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, in the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Sinnott Family – Bank of Utica Auditorium.

A juggling workshop will follow at 1 p.m.

With sponsor support, Munson-Williams will be able to offer free admission for the remaining For Kids and Families events this season.

Seating is limited and reservations are required by visiting the Ticket Office or calling 315-797-0055. Online reservations are not available.

Since 1995, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus co-founders Stephanie Monseu and Keith Nelson have traveled the world bringing a unique hybrid of vaudeville, circus and sideshow spectacle to theaters, clubs, colleges and festivals.

Their Dynamic Duo show takes classic circus entertainment and offers its own artistic twist.

It’s earthy, gritty, and celebrates the sideshow’s odd novelty acts in an engaging and participatory way that can’t be found in any other type of circus. The program is supported, in part, by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Terrace Cafe will be open during the performance.
