MVCC Rome announces upcoming events

From Casino Night to art workshops, Mohawk Valley Community College Rome Campus has several activities and special events planned for the months of September and October.

• Rome Casino Night

Casino Night is a new signature event hosted on our Rome Campus. The Dining and Community Hall will be transformed into a casino, complete with gaming tables staffed by professional dealers. Hor d’oeuvres will be served throughout the event.

Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.  Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Make & Take Workshop: “Watercolors and Pressed Flowers,” with Marissa Perkins of Creative Roots Design

Create a small work of art with watercolors and pressed/dried flowers. The workshop is for beginners and all artists levels. Participants will learn the basics of watercolors and how to preserve flowers, then combine the two into a unique work of art. Flower and materials are included.

Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Dining Community Hall, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• MOVIE: “A Quiet Place Part II”

Following the events at home, the Abbott family now faces the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path. 

Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Make & Take Workshop: “Make Your Own Needle Felted Pumpkin” with Erin Gardner of Grey Fox Felting

Come and learn how to transform bits of fluffy wool into sculptural works of art in this beginner needle felting workshop. Join Gardner for 90 minutes in a relaxed, supportive environment and learn how to make your own needle felted pumpkin from start to finish. No experience necessary. All materials are included. Ages 12 and older are welcome.

Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Dining Community Hall, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Live Cooking Demo: Chef Dustin Swiss, Technical Assistant, Hospitality Department at MVCC

Join Chef Dustin Swiss as he cooks up a delicious fall-themed dish. Audience members will be invited to participate.

Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Dining Community Hall, Plumley Complex.

• Movie: “Cruella”

A live-action prequel feature film following a young Cruella de Vil.

Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Gameshow: “Jeopardy!”

“Jeopardy” is a classic game show- with a twist. The answers are given first and the contestants supply the questions and compete for a chance to win more than $300 in prizes. 

Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Psychic Readings

Readings are limited, so it is advised that tickets are purchased in advance. You must have a ticket to get a reading, and appointments will be first-come, first-served. 

Tuesday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. to noon at Room 119, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

• Movie: “Black Widow”

A film between Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films “Civil War” and “Infinity War.”

Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex. Cost is $5 general, $2 MVCC employees.

Note all events on the campus: For the safety and well-being of students, employees, and guests, only those who are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 are permitted. Individuals not currently eligible for a vaccine (those under age 12) cannot currently attend on-campus events within the college facilities.

Guests must show proof of vaccination using the digital New York State COVID-19 Vaccination Excelsior Pass or show the official hard copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card. All guests also must wear facial coverings/masks regardless of being fully vaccinated.
