UTICA — For the second consecutive year, the Respiratory Care associate degree program at Mohawk Valley Community College has been recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care with the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award.
The award is presented as part of the commission’s efforts to value the RRT credential as a standard of professional achievement.
From a program effectiveness perspective, the commission views the RRT credential as a measure of a program’s success in inspiring its graduates to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations, officials said.
MVCC’s Respiratory Care Associate in Applied Science degree program is a two-
year course of study that
provides a broad knowledge base, advanced training in critical care and advanced life support, and hands-on experience through classroom lectures and laboratory and clinical experiences, the MVCC announcement said.
The MVCC announcement added that graduates of the program are prepared to join healthcare teams in a variety of settings, including hospitals and other acute care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, physician
offices, laboratories, and home care.

In selecting programs for this recognition, the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care used objective criteria based on key accreditation metrics documented in the 2020 Annual Report of Current Status. These programs were required to have three or more years of outcome data, hold accreditation without a progress report, document RRT credentialing success of 90% or above, and meet or exceed established thresholds for evaluations and retention.
