Mount Markham FFA receives Best of Show at event
WEST WINFIELD — Representatives from the CNY Farm Progress Show presented Mount Markham FFA members with a Best of Show award Dec. 1 and a check for $300.
The Farm Progress show is held each September on the grounds of the Len-Lo Farm in Mohawk. The show usually features about 100 exhibitors, offering products and services relevant to all aspects of the agricultural community, with attendance ranging between 8,000 to 10,000 people.
The main show takes place over approximately 10 acres, with more than 40 acres in use featuring field demonstrations and fun activities. Farm Credit East continues to be the Main corporate sponsor for the CNY Farm Progress Show.
Mount Markham FFA had the largest student display and the most chapter members present. While at the show, students were recruiting judges for the District 5 FFA competitions in February, which will be hosted at Mount Markham High School.
“The show was a great opportunity for our chapter to network with business leaders and community members. We were able to discuss ways the community can support Agricultural Education and help with our upcoming events,” said Owen Allen, Mount Markham FFA chapter president.
“Helping at this farm show is a great way for our organization and chapter to be able to give back to the agricultural community that helps educate the next generation of agriculturalists,” added Abbie Ainslie, New York State FFA District 5 president and also a Mount Markham FFA member.
All of NYS District 5 Schools will compete in Leadership Development Competitions Feb. 4 at Mount Markham High School. Chapters in District 5 are Canastota, Cazenovia Aggies, DeRuyter, Adirondack, Fonda-Fultonville, Hamilton, Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES, Herkimer, Madison, Morrisville-Eaton, Mount Markham, Mohawk Valley, Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, Remsen, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Stockbridge Valley, Waterville and West Canada.
