Motorcyclist injured in Route 49 crash
ROME — A 20-year-old man was hospitalized and ticketed for speeding after his motorcycle crashed off Route 49 Tuesday morning, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said Tony E. Moonen, of Rome, was eastbound on Route 49 at about 10:30 a.m. when he lost control of his 2020 Yamaha motorcycle. The bike crossed into the median and Moonen was thrown from the seat after hitting an embankment.
Moonen suffered serious injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities said. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Moonen was also ticketed for imprudent speed, operating out of class and no insurance, deputies stated. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
