NEW HARTFORD — Maternal Child Services at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) is offering free monthly breastfeeding classes for expectant parents who have either chosen or are considering breastfeeding.
The classes are taught by International Board Certified Breastfeeding Consultants (IBCLC) Registered Nurse Anna Mroczek and Registered Nurse Galina Karpova.
The classes will be held on the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Allen-Calder Conference Rooms 3, 4 and 5 on the St. Luke’s Campus, 1656 Champlin Ave. The classes will be offered on June 5, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4. There will be no class held in July.
The classes are designed to address common breastfeeding concerns including:
Importance of breastfeeding for the optimal well-being of mother and baby.
Normal newborn behavior.
What to expect in the first few days.
Physiology of milk production.
Positioning and latch for optimal comfort.
Finding support after discharge.
Returning to work.
Breastfeeding tools and breast pumps.
