VILLAGE OF CLINTON — An 84-year-old man was found after briefly being reported missing Wednesday afternoon. State police said Raymond W. Gates was reported missing at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday from the Brookdale Clinton independent Living facility in Clinton. Law enforcement searched the area and Gates was located later in the afternoon.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office operates Project Lifesaver, a free public service for people with dementia, autism or other related illnesses. Officials said people with cognitive conditions can often wander away, become disoriented and not know how or who to call for help. Caregivers voluntarily register their family member with the program and they are given a small wrist or ankle transmitter that emits an individualized tracking signal. If the person wanders off or goes missing, the Sheriff’s Office can then track the person down using the signal. Families can enroll by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 315-765-2220.
