Michelle Adey Fund receives Stewart’s Holiday Match grant
ROME — The Michelle M. Adey Memorial Fund recently received a grant of $1,000 from the Stewarts Holiday Match Program to help support its mission of helping children in the area.
The Stewarts Holiday Match Program collects donations from its customers at all of its shops between Thanksgiving and Christmas to be used for helping children under 18 years of age. Charities then apply to be considered for a grant.
The Michelle fund is named for Michelle Adey, daughter of Romans Mary Carmel Wolf and Mike Adey, who died of cystic fibrosis in 1982 at age six. Since that time, the fund named for her has helped hundreds of families whose children suffer from serious life-threatening illnesses with expenses such as travel, food, co-pays and lodging.
Last year, families received $33,800 in grants from the Michelle fund. Since the Fund started, it has disbursed over $950,000 to assist families in need in the central New York area. This 501c3 organization is run by an all-volunteer board, and administrative expenses are consistently below 2%.
