VERONA — Maryann J. Anderson, 86, Route 31, joined the love of her life, Sunday, September 27, 2021, in the Eastern Star Home of New York State, Oriskany, following an extended illness.

Born in Rome, on June 22, 1935, she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Ann Czebeniak Simon, Jr. A lifelong resident of the area, Maryann was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1953. Her husband, Albert W. “Andy” Anderson died in 1987.

Maryann served with the ministry of Plymouth Alliance Church and Augusta Presbyterian Church. Very active in the Presbyterian faith, she served as a teacher and superintendent of the Sunday Schools, a Deacon, an Elder and Clerk of the Session.

Maryann was a member of three different Order of the Eastern Star chapters, holding all offices and the New York State offices, Toastmasters International, District #65, the Verona Fire Department Auxiliary, the Class of 1953 Reunion Committee of RFA, also serving as chair, the first Democrat to be elected in Verona, serving for eight years, Vice-Chair of the Oneida County Democratic Committee, past president of the Oneida County Association of Towns, a member of the Red Hat Society and a charter member of the Town of Verona Historical Society.

Surviving are her daughter, Deborah (Michael Gaiser) Anderson-Gaiser of Vernon; her two sons, Glen W. (Joan) Anderson of Rome and Mark W. (Steven) Anderson of Verona; her two sisters, Barbara A. Muscarella of Lee Center and Judith A. (Christopher) Mc Carthy of Rome; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Joseph Muscarella.

Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m., Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc. 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be made in Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 10:30-12:30 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service.
