Catholic School Association honors: Mary Carmel Wolf
Mary Carmel (Lupica) Wolf is a native Roman who attended 12 years of Catholic school, beginning at St. Aloysius Academy and continuing at Rome Catholic High. Her freshman class entered RCH when it was opened in 1963, and the class recently celebrated its 55-year reunion.
Carmel Wolf always spoke very highly of the wonderful nuns and priests that taught her, including Sister Adrienne Frances, Sister Rose Alicia, Father Morelle and Father Karlen.
After high school, Carmel Wolf attended SUNY Albany, graduating with a degree in education with a concentration in French. She said her years of Catholic education set the stage for her long and successful career as an educator, retiring in 2004 from the Camden Central School District.
During her career, Carmel Wolf was also involved in many volunteer activities supporting both the church and the community. She was appointed to the Mohawk Valley Community College board of trustees in 1991 and served in that capacity until 2012. She was chairman of that board from 2000-2002.
She is a member of St. Peter’s Church where she is a lector, Eucharistic Minister, food pantry volunteer, as well as a former choir member and Confirmation teacher. She is also an officer with the Rome Twigs, a member of the Wednesday Morning Club, and secretary of the Michelle M. The Michelle Fund, which has operated for over three decades, has provided more than $950,000 to families with seriously ill children in the area.
