Man hurt as horse and buggy struck by car

TOWN OF AUGUSTA — A 28-year-old man was hospitalized after his horse and buggy cart was rear-ended by a car on
Route 26 on Thursday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said Raymond Shelter, of Augusta, was riding his horse and buggy northbound at about 5 p.m. when the buggy was struck from behind by a 2009 Hyundai, driven by Nancy Swan, 69, of Oneida. Deputies said Shelter suffered minor injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

Swan was ticketed for unreasonable speed, deputies said. She was ticketed to appear in Town Court.
