Rome man nets weapons charge after makeshift club found in car
A 42-year-old man was found with a homemade billy club after he was parked, alone at Ace Hardware in the early morning hours on Thursday, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said a lone vehicle was spotted in the Ace Hardware parking lot at 4 a.m. Thursday, while the store was closed. An officer pulled up to the vehicle and spoke to the driver, 42-year-old Casey J. Seamans, of Rome, police stated.
While the officer was there, police said Seamans drove away and tried to leave the scene. He was pulled over a short time later.
Police said the officer found that the vehicle had a suspended registration, so it would be towed.
According to police, the vehicle was searched before towing, and they discovered a makeshift wooden club, about 24-inches long, stashed for easy access between the driver and passenger seats.
Seamans is charged with fourth-degree possession of a weapon and suspended registration, police stated.
He was ticketed to appear in Rome City Court.
