UTICA — A 50-year-old Utica man faces up to possibly 60 years in prison after admitting to downloading child pornography in federal court in Syracuse on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

John Seiselmyer pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Glenn T. Suddaby to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, prosecutors said. Seiselmyer faces between 15 years to 60 years in federal prison when he returns for sentencing on Aug. 2.

Prosecutors said Seiselmyer used a laptop computer in Utica to download child pornography over the internet between February and June 2020. Authorities said he was found with more than 9,000 images and 955 videos of kiddie porn.

According to state records, Seiselmyer is a registered Level 2 sex offender. He was convicted in 2007 of sexually abusing a 3-year-old boy in Utica, and was sentenced to five years in state prison, records state.
