Man charged with resisting arrest in Rome
ROME — A Rome man has been charged with resisting arrest after struggling with police officers on the side of Erie Boulevard on Tuesday, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Matthew J. Crossway, 30, was found pushing a wheelchair along the side of Erie Boulevard West at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with several items in the wheelchair. Police stopped to question Crossway and it was found that he had an open bench warrant for not appearing in Rome City Court on a prior charge of fourth-degree possession of a weapon.
According to the warrant, police said Crossway had been charged after swinging a sword at people at the Relax Inn on New Year's Eve.
On Tuesday, Crossway attempted to lunge away from officers and struggled with them when they tried to take him into custody, police said. He was eventually taken into custody on an additional count of resisting arrest, authorities stated.
Crossway is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
