Man charged for tossing teen son’s cell phone

A 32-year-old father has been charged after law enforcement officials said he threw his teenager’s cell phone out the car window.

Police said Michael J. McFarland Jr., of West Bloomfield Street, was driving his 13-year-old son to a custody exchange on Aug. 29 when he threw the child’s cell phone out the vehicle window. Police said McFarland then got out and kicked the phone into a sewer drain.

Police said the cell phone was owned by the child’s mother.

Police said the case was turned over to City Court and a criminal summons was issued for McFarland.

Police said McFarland answered the summons on Tuesday and is charged with one count of fourth-degree mischief.

He is scheduled to reappear in court.
