Man and woman accused of struggling with police during dispute in Rome
ROME — A man and woman are facing charges after both fighting and struggling with police officers during a domestic dispute on Church Street early Sunday, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Noor M. Hassan, 30, of Rome, was involved in an argument with his girlfriend's mother at a residence on Church Street around 6:45 a.m. Sunday. During the argument, police said Hassan damaged a television set and started choking the mother.
When officers arrived on scene, police said Hassan was holding an infant, and there were other children in the residence. Police said Hassan refused to put down the infant in order to be taken into custody.
The child was eventually passed off to its mother, 23-year-old Deborah A. Bower, of Rome, who is Hassan's girlfriend, police said. While she was holding the child, authorities said Bower started lunging at officers to stop them from taking Hassan into custody.
Hassan and Bower are both charged with resisting arrest, police said. Hassan is also charged with fourth-degree mischief, second-degree imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing, authorities stated, while Bower is additionally charged with second-degree harassment, obstruction of a governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child.
Both are scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
