Man airlifted following snowmobile crash in Florence


TOWN OF FLORENCE — A Niagara Falls man was air-lifted to a Syracuse hospital after his snowmobile hit a rock on a trail in Florence Friday afternoon, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Roy A. Dean, 53, was eastbound on trail C4I at about 2:53 p.m. Friday when his snowmobile hit a large rock in the center of the trail. Deputies said the snowmobile started to flip end over end and Dean suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Dean was air-lifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse, authorities stated. Deputies said Dean was not at fault for the crash and no tickets were issued. The crash occurred in the Swancott Hill State Forest.
