Man accused of harassing ex-wife despite order of protection


A Rome man is facing a felony charge for violating an order of protection during a domestic dispute, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Jeffrey E. Smith-Brown, 33, of North Jay Street, attacked his ex-wife at her home on Floyd Avenue on Aug. 4, then returned to the residence and continued to harass her at 2:30 a.m. the following morning. Police said Smith-Brown fled the residence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police said Smith-Brown was located on North Jay Street Saturday evening and he was taken into custody on one count each of felony first-degree contempt and second-degree harassment. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
