Rome man accused of drunkenly harassing family member, say police

A 29-year-old man was taken into custody late Friday night after the Rome Police Department said he drunkenly harassed a family member on Expense Street.

Police said Stephen P. Lavine, of Rome, was intoxicated and confronted a family member who was out walking their dog on Expense Street around 10 p.m.

Police said the family member retreated into their nearby home, and Lavine started trying to break down the front door.

When officers arrived on the scene, police said Lavine was argumentative and aggressive.

Police said Lavine grabbed the coat sleeve of one of the officers and yanked him. The officers took Lavine to the ground and he was taken into custody.

Lavine is charged with one count of second-degree harassment, police stated.

He was released on an appearance ticket for Rome City Court, according to police.
