NEW HARTFORD — A 45-year-old man was charged with drunken driving after fleeing a crash at Campion Road and Genesee Street very early Monday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Thomas J. Williams, of New Hartford, was northbound on Oxford Road shortly after midnight when his 2014 Chevy pickup truck went through the intersection with Genesee Street and went off the west shoulder of Campion Road. Police said the truck hit a light post, two highway signs and a dumpster before coming to rest in the parking lot of Sammy’s Cafe.
Police said Williams ran from the scene and was later found walking south on Oxford Road.
Williams is charged with driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic violations, authorities said.
He is scheduled to appear in court, the law enforcers added.
