Former Madison County mail carrier accused of delaying mail, possessing child pornography
EATON — A former mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Madison County is accused in Federal Court of both delaying mail and possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Ryan Berte, 33, of Eaton, pleaded not guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Andrew T. Baxter on Monday on one count each of delay of mail, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, court officials said. His case was adjourned for a potential trial date on Nov. 28.
Authorities said between at least May 2020 and September 2021, Berte downloaded multiple images and videos of child pornography involving prepubescent minors onto a laptop and a flash drive while in Madison County.
On Sept. 22, 2021, while working as a mail carrier for the Postal Service, authorities said Berte intentionally delayed mail delivery.
Berte faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted, as well as a $250,000 fine.
