Magistics Track Club competes in AAU Indoor Track and Field Nationals

Members of the Magistics Track Club participated in the 2023 AAU Indoor Track and Field Nationals in Virginia Beach. Team members earned three podium finishes and personal records in eight events.

Emma Szarek of Westmoreland was second in the 800-meter race and third in the 1,500 for 14-year-olds and is an All-American in both. She set a personal record in the 800 with a time of 2:22.66, missing first place by 0.09 seconds.

Raiyah Patterson of Utica took third in the long jump, earning All-American status, and was 15th in the 60-meter dash for 13-year-olds. A jump of 15 feet, 7.5 inches and race time of 8:36 were both personal records.

Willie Bellamy of Notre Dame had personal records in the 60, 200 and 400 for 14-year-olds. He placed 55th with a 27:14 in the 200, 32nd in the 60 with a time of 8:06 and 31st for the 400 in 1:00.95.

Jamary Bushey, also a 14-year-old from Notre Dame, set personal records in the 800 and 1,500. For the 1,500 he came in 19th in 5:19.16. In the 800, he was 23rd in 2:34.48. This was his first time competing at a national event.

Patterson and Szarek will both compete at New Balance Nationals.

The Magistics Team is coached by Jim Peterson.
