Local fire departments respond to structure fire in Chadwicks
CHADWICKS — Around 8:21 p.m. on Friday, March 24, firefighters from the Willowvale Fire Company were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 9387 Elm St. in Chadwicks.
Upon arrival, Willowvale firefighters determined that there was a working structure fire with flames and smoke visible from a second floor window. A relative of the property owner was on the scene and reported that the residence was unoccupied.
Fire departments from New Hartford, Clayville, Sauquoit and Yorkville, along with Edwards Ambulance, all provided additional aid.
Willowvale firefighters addressed the interior of the second floor and were able to subdue the fire after Willowvale Engine Three arrived and stretched an attack line using water from a nearby hydrant.
The New Hartford and Clayville fire departments arrived shortly after and all three departments examined the structure for extensions to other parts of the second floor and attic. The Yorkville department provided a firefighter assist and search team.
The fire was reported under control at 9:06 p.m., but firefighters remained to conduct salvage and overhaul operations.
The cause of the fire is unknown as of Saturday morning.
In a statement, the Willowvale Fire Company said it would like to "express our sincere thanks to each of the responding fire companies, Edwards Ambulance, the New Hartford Police Department and National Grid for their rapid response to the scene and for their assistance."
