LETTER: Politicians need to understand importance of police

It’s about time we as a nation start realizing how important our police officers are to us individually and collectively. We need to let the politicians who call for defunding the police and taking the side of criminals know that it is time to wake up.

They are the ones responsible for the increase in all kinds of crime and the demeaning of police when the police try to do their job.

Why is it that there is always an investigation when a police officer has to shoot a criminal but when a criminal shoots a police officer there is no big investigation?

Why are the police told not to bother arresting someone who steals articles where the cost of items taken are below a certain threshold? Stealing is still a crime, and the ones doing it should be apprehended and put in jail.

I have a different idea. Instead of defunding the police, why don’t we start defunding the politicians.

We should also require the politicians to get out of their ivory towers and require them to go out on patrol with the police to witness what the police have to put up with. Maybe then they would be a little more appreciative of what our brave police have to put up with.

Why is there a no bail requirement for some who are arrested for committing a crime without putting them in jail? Many times those who are brought in for committing a crime are processed and then are released and end up committing more crimes. I think it is time for people to stand up for our brave police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us and tell our politicians if they want to stay in their job they should start appreciating what the police are doing. I encourage you that when you see a police officer tell them how much you appreciate them.
