LETTER: Congress members misled public about Jan. 6
Have they no shame? In the article “Tenney, Stefanik blast House panel hearing” (6/11 Daily Sentinel), they deliberately misled us with false statements regarding conditions preceding and events during the January 6 insurrection.
The Capitol Police Board, not Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, is responsible for Capitol security. She is not involved with the Board. The bigger issue is why, as later documented by the January 6 Committee hearings, did Trump -- despite pleas to do otherwise -- never call for help to stop the deadly violence and wait three hours to tell the mob to go home?
Contrary to Rep. Elise Stefanik’s claim, the Committee is legitimate and constitutional as it has withstood legal challenges. Based upon the Constitution’s Article 1, courts have consistently upheld Congress’ rights to conduct such investigations. Her claim demonstrates that Trumpsters, not Democrats, are “desperate”.
Rep. Claudia Tenney fails to acknowledge the Committee’s goal to document for the public record how close we came to losing our democracy. If she really wants to “harden Capitol security” why did she, and every other Republican, vote against a bill to do that?
Tenney and Stefanik are embarrassments to New York. We deserve better representation and can get it next November.
