LETTER: Change is coming to area colleges and universities

First it was President Laura Casamento of Utica University, then it was President Cathleen McColgin of Herkimer College, who both announced their retirements for next year, after the current academic year ends. Now, Acting President Tod Laursen at SUNY Poly has announced he will leave his post on Dec.14.

In the next eight to 10 months, three area colleges and universities will experience change with there presidents. Our community will lose three important leaders. It will be up to their (college) boards of directors to conduct search committees to find and select their replacements. That role for any board, is an important and enormous task.

We will miss Casamento, McColgin and Laursen, but we wish them well. They have all made a positive impact.

We can also look forward to welcoming new leaders, who will come to a region that’s experiencing a very positive transformation. The future of each campus should be filled with many opportunities.
