UTICA — A loaded handgun was found in a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle from recent gunfire incidents in Utica on Wednesday, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said the vehicle was pulled over for traffic violations on High Street at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the vehicle had no front license plate, and had been involved in recent shots fired investigations.

The driver, Alphonso Coney, 20, of Utica, was found to be driving on a suspended license, police stated. A search of the vehicle then uncovered a loaded, defaced 9mm handgun hidden inside a bag, authorities stated.

Coney and passengers Jahiem Nashaner, 20, of Utica, and Isiir Thompson, 19, of Utica, are all charged with one count each of second and third-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police stated.

Coney is additionally charged with several vehicle and traffic violations. All three men are scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
