Karen Marie Pawlicki
BOONVILLE — Karen Marie Pawlicki, age 75, passed away Thursday evening, December 9, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, NY. She was born November 21, 1946, in Ithaca, NY to Harold and Esther Mix, and is one of five siblings. She met her husband of 52 years, James Pawlicki, at Cornell University in the late 1960s and they soon married in 1969 and remained together until her passing.
For many years early in their marriage, she was by her husband’s side helping establish his veterinary business, then transitioned into a 20-year career at the local branch of Community Bank where she loved interacting with the community. After her retirement in 2007, she developed a new love for golf, escaping to Florida during the long NY winters, and dipping her toes in the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic Ocean depending on which Florida coast they vacationed on (but especially the Gulf of Mexico!). Always a social butterfly, she cherished any activities with her numerous friends – dinners, card games, watching basketball games at the Florida SU bar, golf, trips, etc. She was always able to make new friends whether on their own in Florida or at a grandchild’s game or dance recital.
Most important to her was her family and her role as Nana. She loved any and every time she could see her daughter’s family, her son’s family, or even better, both at the same time. She made the best beef burgundy for those occasions and laughed at how many pounds of potatoes she had to make. She loved a few games of cards after the meal while the adults all enjoyed one of Jim’s rye Manhattans. A wonderful pie maker for years, she even mastered the delicate art of gluten-free pie crusts and cookies when two of her grandchildren were diagnosed with celiac disease. She will be deeply missed, but certainly remain an inspiration to many for years to come.
Karen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jim; brother and his wife, Butch and Sue Mix; sister and her husband, Carol and Jim Pettee; sister and her husband, Sarah Padula and Mitchell Herzog; brother and his wife, Scott and Jeanette Mix; daughter and her husband, Jill and Andy Miller; son and his wife, Jeff and Julie Pawlicki; grandchildren Mae, Sophie, Morgan, Matt, Braden and Luke; and many nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating her life and saying good-bye to a true one-of-a-kind person on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
