Side Kicks Karate, 1251 Erie Blvd. W., will offer a summer camp experience for children age 5 and older wishing to learn more about martial arts, as well as participate in other sports and seasonal activities. Camp will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday starting June 28 and run to Sept. 3.
“Our facility is designed to have the best martial arts experience. Learning, fun and safety are our top priority. And our summer camps are much more than martial arts,” said owner and sensei Brian Seetge.
In addition to martial arts classes, summer camp will include swimming, educational field trips, guest speakers representing Rome Police and Fire departments, themed activities, outside fitness and games such as dodgeball, basketball, soccer, baseball and T-ball, kickball and flag football, movie days and more.
He said, “We are dedicated to providing every single camper the chance to develop into a more physically fit, confident, and respectful person. Our students will learn a martial arts curriculum that is second to none. Not only will they learn how to defend themselves, but they will learn important character skills like respect, focus, goal setting, self-discipline and much more.”
“Kids need structure with everything going on now, and resources to help them grow and develop strong social skills, and to also keep them fit and active,” Seetge said. “This is something we want to provide to our community and our parents.”
Seetge said his karate school is open now and has been following COVID-19 guidelines including mask wearing and social distancing, which would be included in the summer camp program.
“We’re open now and following guidelines, keeping people distanced and masked,” he said. “It’s always a work in progress, and we keep things safer as we go, so we’re following all the rules to be in compliance. Most of our summer programs will be at our facility, but obviously we’ll also go to some parks in Rome to help guide the activities we have planned.”
