MOHAWK — Hummel’s Office Plus, an area independently owned office products dealer has acquired Latham–based office supply business, Workplace Central.
Financial terms of the deal finalized as of Aug. 1 remain confidential, according to a statement. However, moving forward, Workplace Central will change its name to Hummel’s Office Plus and continue to operate from its Latham location.
Also, Hummel’s will retain all Workplace Central employees and continue to service commercial delivery accounts with office supplies, office furniture, janitorial and other related products. Hummel’s Central New York employee base is now boosted to nearly 100.
“The merging of our two companies is a great story for Central New York. We are proud of the history of both companies and remain focused on bringing the very best solution to our customers while they procure their business products,” Hummel’s CEO Justin Hummel said in a statement.
According to a release, Hummel’s Office Plus was founded in 1934 by Harrison J. Hummel as a typewriter repair and supply business, later growing to offer office supplies and furniture.
Hummel’s Office Plus, is headquartered in an 80,000-square-foot distribution center and office complex in Mohawk and operates retail stores in Rome, Herkimer, Norwich and Cortland and has a sales office in Syracuse.
