Holy Cross Academy marks Catholic Schools Week
ONEIDA CASTLE — Holy Cross Academy celebrated Catholic Schools Week last week, Jan. 21-Feb. 4, with a variety of activities and events.
This year’s theme of Catholic Schools Week, a nationwide celebration, was “Faith. Excellence. Service.” “Holy Cross Academy takes pride in providing an atmosphere of living daily the Catholic faith, encouraging academic excellence, and in service to others,” school officials said in an announcement. “The week began with a talk from Deacon James Chappell about the blessing of a Catholic education. A presentation was also given on St. John Bosco, one of HCA’s patron saints, by Fr. Edmund Castronovo.”
Throughout the week students took part in activities ranging from sled races to bowling, collecting donations for Joseph House, and showing appreciation for teachers and priests.
“Catholic Schools week is our version of Spirit Week, and it certainly captures the spirit of Holy Cross – an atmosphere of fun and faith as well as strong education,” said Principal Teri Maciag.
“Holy Cross Academy is thankful to have such wonderful staff and students. We are also so thankful for all of our families and friends who support Catholic Education and our school,” Maciag added.
