Hoax 911 call sends law enforcement, rescue personnel to Sullivan
SULLIVAN — A hoax 911 call tied up multiple first-responders and closed a road in the Town of Sullivan in Madison County Monday morning, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the call was received at 8:30 a.m. for a possible overdose and a person with a knife on Hitchcock Point Road. Dispatchers were told that a man had a knife inside a residence and had overdosed an on unknown substance. Authorities noted that the caller was uncooperative with dispatchers.
Hitchcock Point Road was closed for about an hour while deputies responded to the scene — where they learned the call was unfounded, deputies said. There was no overdose or person with a knife, authorities stated. The road was reopened.
The Sheriff's Office, Bridgeport Fire Department, AMR Ambulance and New York State Police all responded to the call.
