UTICA — A dangerous joyride around the City of Utica in a stolen Kia Soul has police searching for the escaped driver, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said the red Kia Soul was reported stolen from a location in the city around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. A short time later, police said they started receiving numerous reports from people around the city and in neighboring jurisdictions, of a Kia driving recklessly and erratically.

The Kia was reportedly cruising through local streets at speeds over 90 mph, nearly causing multiple accidents. Police noted that there were no actual crashes and no one was injured, but the speeding vehicle forced several drivers off the road.

Utica Police put out a warning on social media cautioning residents in the city to be careful on the streets.

Around 1:30 p.m., police said someone witnessed the suspect stopping the vehicle near the Nexus Center along Oriskany Street West, and fleeing the scene. Police said the suspect was described as a Black male dressed all in black. The Kia was recovered from the spot it was abandoned.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Utica Police at 315-735-3301.
