HERKIMER — Herkimer College head coach Jason Rathbun was named American Baseball Coaches Association National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Coach of the Year.

The ABCA, the primary organization for amateur baseball, has over 45,000 members from the NCAA Division I level to youth leagues.

Rathbun, who was awarded ABCA NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year for the first time, was one of 11 coaches in the country to win a National Coach of the Year award.

Last month, the Herkimer College baseball team won NJCAA championship for the first time. The sixth-seed Generals topped fifth-seed Dallas College-Eastfield 9-3 on June 1 in the NJCAA Division III World Series championship game at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, Tennessee.

The Generals finished the season with a 41-7 overall record.
