UPDATE: Bank robbery suspect remains on the run after fleeing Utica
Posted
UTICA — The search remains ongoing for a bank robbery suspect who demanded cash from the Adirondack Bank on Genesee Street Friday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.
No one was injured in the daytime robbery.
Utica Police Lt. Michael Curley said a male suspect entered the bank around 9:30 a.m. and demanded cash from the bank tellers using a note. No weapon was displayed, he stated. The bank's alarm was tripped and police rushed to the scene.
"The suspect fled in an unknown direction, and we believe he may have then taken a Centro bus to a New Hartford location," the lieutenant said.
The search for the suspect moved to New Hartford and a large police presence was reported at Sangertown Square. Curley said Friday morning that it was believed the suspect left the New Hartford area shortly after arriving.
The suspect is described as an adult male, wearing khaki pants, brown boots and a blue coat. Curley said it was believed that he may have ditched the coat at some point after fleeing the bank.
The Utica Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has been assigned to investigate. Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is asked to call 315-223-3510.
