The Hamilton College women's hockey team is not throwing away its shot during the first NCAA Division III tournament appearance.

Evie Sheridan totaled 31 saves and Hamilton got goals in the second and third periods Saturday to help No. 6 Hamilton College notch a 2-0 upset over No. 5 Adrian College in an NCAA tournament quarterfinal at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Michigan.

It was Sheridan's fifth shutout of the season for Hamilton, which has won a team-record 22 games this season under New England Small College Athletic Conference coach of the year Emily McNamara, who is in her 11th season at Hamilton.

The win helps Hamilton move on to the NCAA tournament semifinals. The team will play NESCAC foe Amherst College on Friday at a site and time to be announced.

On Saturday, defenseman Cuora Sullivan gave the Continentals the lead for good on the team's second shot in the second period with five minutes left in the second period. It was Sullivan's third goal of the season.

Abby Smith added an empty-netter with 57 seconds remaining in the third period to help Hamilton.

It sets up a NESCAC rematch with Amherst, which scored a 5-0 win over Hamilton on March 4.

Notably, Sheridan earned a shutout against Amherst in November.

Colgate falls

The Colgate women's hockey team's season came to end Saturday.

No. 6 Wisconsin scored three consecutive goals across the second and third periods and earned a 4-2 win over No. 3 Colgate in the the NCAA Division I Regional Final on Saturday at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton.

Colgate's season ends with 32 wins, its second straight 30-win campaign.

Allyson Simpson scored early in the second period to tie the game before the goals from Wisconsin.

New Hartford's Sydney Bard is a senior on the Colgate team. Her 33 points were a career-best for her. They also ranked sixth on the team.
