Hamilton College Brass Ensemble to help celebrate at Palm Sunday service
ORISKANY FALLS — The Hamilton College Brass Ensemble will provide service music on Palm Sunday at Augusta Presbyterian Church, 2345 Route 26, Oriskany Falls. The service will be at 10 a.m.
The brass ensemble, founded in 1959, performs numerous times during the academic year, providing music for various college functions as well as giving concerts off campus. They have been performing every year at Augusta Presbyterian since 2002.
Its repertory ranges from Josquin and Gabrieli to Hindemith and Dahl. Heather Buchman, the conductor of the Hamilton College Brass Ensemble, also directs the Hamilton College Orchestra.
She frequently conducts for the Syracuse Society for New Music and is a member of the Hohenfels Trombone Quartet.
Buchman completed professional studies in conducting at the Juilliard School and holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree and performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, according to the announcement from Hamilton College.
She served as principal trombonist of the San Diego Symphony from 1988 to 1996.
