ONEIDA — The Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce honored those in the community with their inaugural Comeback dinner award ceremony.

Winners included:

Smith’s Flooring and Paint Center, 773 Lenox Ave., was honored this year with the Longevity Award. The business has been serving the greater Oneida area for more than 25 years, according to the chamber announcement;

The New Business award went to Old Erie Golf Club, 3387 Fosters Corners Road in Durhamville. The club has been open for less than three years and were recognized for their accomplishments and impact on the community despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; and

The Distinguished Service Award went to Denise Laube, executive director of the United Way of Greater Oneida.

The United Way of Greater Oneida supports 14 local agencies that offer services and assistance to those in need. A lifelong resident of Oneida and an employee of the United Way for 33 years, Laube handles everything from bookkeeping and accounting to payroll and fundraising. During the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Laube and the United Way Board of Directors organized a drive-through luncheon fundraiser in place of their usual kickoff fundraiser.

“Not holding the kickoff wasn’t an option,” Laube said. “We couldn’t afford to not have the kickoff. The agencies that we support all provide a variety of services and they’re all very needed. And right now, the need is magnified.”

Besides the United Way, Laube administers the Emergency Food and Shelter Program for Madison County, drafting a press release announcing the grant, convening with the local board, filing the local board plan, creating interim reports and final reports, and working with anywhere from two to nine recipient agencies per cycle for this federal grant.

She also works with funded partners to complete the SEFA recertification annually, stays connected with currently 14 funded partners throughout the year, and completes the membership standards certification for the United Way Worldwide, along with the database survey for the United Way Worldwide.
